She has a nephew named Marmagel, revealed in " Smurfy Mother's Day!". She had a second cousin named the Great Matilda in the Season 7 episode " Soothsayer Smurfette". When Lily, Blossom, and Begonia rescue him and cure his indigestion, Mummy tries to get Wild back, but ends up falling off a cliff. Just then, she found Wild, who she tried to nurture like a pet while he was bloated from eating a cake. Mummy had gotten mad at him and Gargamel, the latter promising he will try to get the lizard out of Azrael's stomach. Sometime before the events of " Wild Gets Tamed", Azrael had eaten her pet lizard. Hearing that, Painter freezes her and Gargamel while Mummy had been chasing him and were frozen. Initially, Mummy liked Painter, as he will capture great art in her, but then conspires with Gargamel to attempt to capture him, Papa Smurf, and Smurfette until Papa Smurf warns him that Mummy is bad news. Once, in "Mommy's Masterpiece", Painter found an interest in Mummy as her new muse. Normally, Mummy berates Gargamel for spending his life on capturing Smurfs but doesn't usually interact with them. Mummy's relationship with the Smurfs varies. As the adult Gargamel sadly admits to Azrael, his mother never forgave him for doing badly at Wizard's School, implying that's why she would move out of the castle in later life. In "Gargamel's Time Trip", Gargamel goes back in time to see a younger and gentler version of his mother holding her infant son in his castle (hers at the time), hoping that he will someday be a successful wizard and that he would care for her in her old age. In " The Smurfs Show", she tries to warn Gargamel about the trap that the Smurfs have made for him, and in " Mommy's Masterpiece", before she and Gargamel are defeated, she was planning to let Gargamel capture Painter, Papa Smurf, and Smurfette after Painter finished painting her portrait, seeing how badly Gargamel wanted the Smurfs. Mummy is also not afraid of expressing her annoyance on Gargamel's obsession on capturing the Smurfs, shown in various episodes such as "Cover Story" and "Mirror, Mirror On The Armoire", where she consistently comments on his bumbling.Īt very rare times, she is shown to have care for Gargamel. However, they do not share a positive relationship, as Mummy often berates him and gets mad at him regularly. In the episode " Wedding Bells For Gargamel", Gargamel's mother decided it was high time he married and arranged him to marry Andria through the matchmaker Madame Lavinia, only to see the wedding get cancelled thanks to her son and the Smurfs. The episode " Gargamel's Time Trip" even shows adult Gargamel getting saddened at seeing his mother hoping he becomes a successful wizard.
She not only voices her disapproval on her son owning a cat by not only throwing Azrael out of his home, but brutally chews him out when his plans on catching the Smurfs fails, reducing him to tears. Like the 1980s series, it is revealed in " Cover Story" that Gargamel getting expelled from the Sorcerer's School explains Mummy's dislike towards her son. She is a supporting character in the series, appearing in various episodes. She now has a brown hat and has a mole on her face.

Mummy reappears again in the CGI animated series episode " Funny Mommy" and goes under a major redesign. In the more recent comic book story " The Smurfs And The Sorcerer's Love", Mummy appears again to offer her son some advice in his desire to date a young woman named Roxana and gives him a magic love potion to help him succeed, the result of which proves disastrous. Interestingly, although only the back of her is seen, what is seen of her is very different from the 1981 cartoon show version of her. Gargamel's mother has a comic book appearance in the story " Bathing Smurfs" when the evil wizard remembers things of his childhood that would be destroyed in the fire of his hovel that Papa Smurf warns him about. Usually, Mummy will hate getting hugs, revealed in " Smurfy Mother's Day!". Whenever Gargamel and Azrael eat with Mummy, her cooking is such that they both get a stomachache. Nobody knows what happened to Mummy's husband. She is obviously a witch, or has at least some knowledge of magic, which she uses in her plans to destroy the Smurfs. She is an annoying old busybody who makes frequent unannounced visits with her son Gargamel, usually to nag him for his consistent failure in destroying the Smurfs.
